Living Wisdom

What does it truly mean to call Jesus our friend? This powerful message explores the profound friendship between Jonathan and David as a living picture of Christ's friendship with us. We discover that Jonathan gave up his rightful claim to the throne, equipped David with his own armor, warned him of dangers, and stood between David and King Saul's murderous rage. In the same way, Jesus surrendered His heavenly throne to become human, equipped us with spiritual armor for our daily battles, warns us through Scripture about life's pitfalls, and stands in the gap between us and eternal judgment. This isn't just poetic language or religious sentiment. It's the scandalous reality that the Son of God calls us friends and treats us accordingly. But friendship is never one-sided. We're challenged to embody this same sacrificial love in our relationships with others by giving up our pride, equipping one another for spiritual battles, speaking truth even when it's difficult, and defending those who cannot defend themselves. The call is clear: love each other as Christ has loved us, because that's what real friends do.
