The Lies that Satan Loves to Tell: Life would be better if you had more control

Nov 2, 2025    Pastor Matthew Schultz

This powerful message confronts one of Satan's oldest and most persistent lies: that life would be better if we just had more control. From the Garden of Eden to the wilderness temptation of Jesus, we see this deceptive tune playing throughout Scripture. The sermon draws us into Philippians 2, where we discover the radical way of Jesus—a king who gave up power rather than grasping for it. While the world tells us to climb ladders, crush opposition, hoard resources, and rule our little kingdoms, Jesus shows us something completely different. He emptied himself, took the form of a servant, and became obedient to death on a cross. But here's the breathtaking truth: God raised him from the dead, demonstrating that Jesus has overcome sin, evil, and death itself. And as little Christs—Christians—what is true for Jesus becomes true for us through faith. We too will overcome. We too will experience God making all things right. This All Saints Day reminder calls us away from the world's power-hungry ways and invites us to live like our king: trusting God's control, humbling ourselves, and serving others. The question isn't whether we want to rule the world, but whether we're willing to let the true King rule our hearts.
