Voices of Passion: Pontius Pilate

Mar 15, 2026    Pastor Matthew Schultz

In a world drowning in competing narratives and conflicting information, we find ourselves asking the same question Pontius Pilate posed to Jesus: What is truth? This message takes us deep into that pivotal moment when truth itself stood before an indifferent Roman governor. Jesus declares that He came into the world to testify to the truth, revealing that His kingdom is not of this world but represents the ultimate reality. The sermon powerfully connects Paul's description of a culture indifferent to God in Romans with our contemporary society, showing how sexual sin, greed, broken promises, and hostility mark both ancient Rome and modern America. But here's the transformative insight: before we judge the indifference around us, we must confront our own indifference to sin, to God's Word, and to Jesus Himself. The beautiful counter-truth is that God is never indifferent to us. His love compelled Him to send Jesus into our broken world to suffer, die, and conquer death on our behalf. As citizens of God's kingdom, we are called to be royal envoys who bring His reality of grace, compassion, justice, and peace into the lives of those around us. The truth isn't just something we know; it's Someone we follow and a kingdom we actively bring into this world.
