Day 2: The Command to Tell the Next Generation
Reading: Psalm 78:1-7
The psalmist calls God's people to listen and learn the things God has commanded them to pass on, so that children yet to be born will know them, grow up trusting God, remembering his works, and keeping his commands.
Devotional:
Passing faith to the next generation is not optional. Psalm 78 frames it as a divine command, not a suggestion left to those who feel particularly gifted with children. God instructed his people to make his deeds and teachings known to their children, so that each generation would carry the story forward. This is the rhythm of the kingdom: receive, live, and tell. The danger in every generation is the temptation to assume someone else is doing the telling. But faith is not transmitted automatically. It is passed on through intentional relationships, shared stories, and the daily witness of a life that trusts God. Someone told you. Now it is your turn.
Reflection Question: Who first told you about God, and how did their faithfulness shape your faith?
Practical Application: Identify one young person in your congregation or community with whom you can intentionally share your faith story this week. It does not have to be formal. A conversation over a meal or a car ride is enough to begin.
