Day 3

Day 3: When Faith Meets Hard Questions
Reading: Psalm 22:1-5 -- The psalmist cries out to God in anguish, asking why he feels forsaken, yet anchors his lament in the faithfulness God showed to those who trusted him in generations past.

Devotional: Steve Jobs asked his pastor why God allows children to starve. It is not a small question. It is the kind of question that, left unanswered or poorly answered, can redirect the entire course of a life. The psalmist asked a version of the same question, and Jesus himself cried those opening words from the cross. Honest anguish before God is not a sign of weak faith. It is often the beginning of deeper faith. The church must be a place where hard questions are welcomed, where doubt is not shamed, and where the Scriptures are opened with honesty and care. The next generation is watching to see if that kind of place exists.
