Day 3

Day 3: The Wisdom of Taking a Moment
Reading: Proverbs 14:29; James 1:19-20

Devotional: Proverbs teaches that patience is the mark of deep understanding, while a short temper reflects a failure of wisdom. James echoes this, urging believers to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. These are not passive postures -- they require active, deliberate effort. Taking a moment before reacting is not weakness. It is wisdom in motion. In that brief pause lives the opportunity to remember that the person in front of you is carrying something you may not see. It is in that pause that empathy is born, and empathy is where genuine human connection begins.

Reflection: Think of a recent moment when you reacted in anger before pausing to understand. What might have been different if you had waited?

Practical Application: Practice the discipline of the pause today. Before responding to any frustrating situation, take three slow breaths and silently ask God for understanding before you speak.
