Day 2

Day 2: When Anger Becomes Something Worse
Reading: Matthew 5:21-26

Devotional: Jesus does not simply warn against the act of murder -- he traces the root of it back to the condition of the heart. Anger left unchecked becomes contempt. Contempt left unchecked begins to strip other people of their dignity, their worth, their right to exist in our world. Jesus makes clear that God is not only concerned with what our hands do but with what our hearts rehearse in private. The insult muttered under your breath, the label you assign to someone who frustrates you -- these matter to God. The same grace that covers the worst of sins also calls us to examine the smallest of them.

Reflection: Who in your life have you quietly dismissed or written off as a fool? What has that posture cost your relationship with them?

Practical Application: Choose one person toward whom you have held contempt. Pray for them by name today, asking God to replace your judgment with genuine compassion.
