Day 3

Day 3: The Back That Carried Our Sin
Reading: Philippians 2:5-11

Devotional: The Hebrew word for pride pictures a back strained from self-promotion and independence. But there's another back in Scripture—the back of Jesus pressed against the cross, bearing the weight of our pride, our self-sufficiency, and our sin. While we were spiritually poor, powerless, and pitiful, Christ humbled Himself to the point of death. He didn't wait for us to clean ourselves up or work our way to worthiness. He came to us in our mess. This is the gospel: you couldn't pull yourself up by your bootstraps into God's kingdom, so Jesus descended to lift you up. Your salvation is entirely His work. Let this truth demolish any pride and birth profound gratitude. You are loved not because of what you've accomplished, but because of what He has done.
