Day 5: Childlike Trust in a God Who Is Near
Reading: Matthew 18:3-4 — Jesus tells his disciples that unless they turn and become like children, they will not enter the kingdom of heaven, and that whoever humbles himself like a child is the greatest in the kingdom.
Devotional: The greatest in the kingdom of God is not the most educated, the most experienced, or the most self-sufficient. It is the one who has learned to be small before a great God. Children trust completely. They ask without embarrassment. They believe without needing to fully understand. They run to the one who loves them without stopping to calculate whether it is worth the effort. That is the kind of faith Jesus is calling you toward. Not ignorant faith, but humble faith. Not passive faith, but active, curious, trusting faith. Come to God today not as someone who has figured it all out, but as someone who is still learning.
Reflection: In what ways has pride or self-sufficiency made it harder for you to trust God fully?
Practical Application: Spend time today simply talking to God as a child would talk to a loving parent, honestly, directly, and without pretense, about exactly where you are in your faith right now.
