Day 2: Love Is Not a Word, It Is a Life

Devotional: It is far easier to say "I love you" than to rearrange your schedule, your budget, or your comfort for someone else. John does not allow us to settle for affectionate language without corresponding action. He points to a closet full of clothing and a neighbor without a coat and asks a pointed question: if you do nothing, where is the love of God in you? Christ did not merely speak of His love from a distance. He entered into human suffering and gave everything. Real love follows that same pattern -- it moves toward need rather than away from it. Love is not a sentiment. It is a decision made again and again.
