Day 4: The Cross Before the Crown
Reading: Philippians 2:8-11 — Paul describes how Christ humbled Himself, becoming obedient even to the point of death on a cross, and that because of this God exalted Him to the highest place, giving Him a name above every name.
Devotional: No one would have signed up for the life of Jesus Christ by looking only at the cross. Rejection, homelessness, false accusation, mockery, suffering, and execution — the path of Jesus looked nothing like victory until Sunday morning. The resurrection does not erase the suffering that came before it, but it transforms the meaning of that suffering entirely. The cross is not a detour from the story of salvation. It is the center of it. When your own road feels like it is leading somewhere dark, remember that the path of Jesus went through death before it arrived at life. Sunday is still coming.
