Day 2: The Danger of Hypocrisy
Reading: Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18
Devotional: Jesus warns against practicing righteousness "to be seen by others." The Greek word for hypocrite literally means "actor"—someone wearing a mask. How easily we fall into this trap! We volunteer so others will think we're generous. We're kind in public while harboring criticism in private. We attend church to maintain our reputation rather than to worship God. Jesus calls us to something radically different: doing good in secret, where only our Father sees. This isn't about hiding our faith, but about purifying our motives. Today, examine your good deeds. Are you seeking human applause or divine approval? Your Father who sees in secret will reward you with something far more valuable than temporary praise—His eternal "well done."
